Physical Therapist

Janann Turner is a licensed physical therapist in the state of Pennsylvania. She received her B.S. in Psychology from Gannon University in 2001 and earned her Master’s in Physical Therapy from Gannon in 2003. Janann was a clinic manager for five years in Forest Hills for Centers for Rehab Services. She was fortunate to further her expertise through attendance at numerous continuing education courses through the University of Pittsburgh’s nationally ranked Physical Therapy education program.

Janann has been credentialed by the APTA as a certified clinical instructor. She also received her certificate for differential diagnosis and medical screening which is necessary to obtain direct access licensure in the state of Pennsylvania. She was recently credentialed as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association in 2008.

Janann is certified as a Pre Natal and Post Partum Exercise Specialist which allowed her to start a variety of programs including an aquatic program for expecting mothers and post-partum strengthening and return to function for new mothers. Her education has helped her to design exercise protocols that aid in preventing gestational diabetes and pre-eclampsia for this population.

Janann is also trained in the McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy. This is a well-known evaluation and treatment method for spine disorders. A McKenzie assessment can eliminate the need for expensive and/or invasive procedures. Research has shown the initial McKenzie assessment procedures to be as reliable as costly diagnostic imaging (i.e., x-rays, MRIs) to determine the source of the problem and quickly identify patients who will benefit from physical therapy and those that may need further testing.

Janann is originally from south western Pennsylvania and she is happy to return to her home town area to be able to extend her services to friends, family and the community. Janann believes that people should try PT first. PT is an unknown solution for many of the problems people have or will have someday. PT is not just for rehabilitation. PT is a wellness pursuit that should be incorporated into everyone’s daily lives.
